According to history, the origin of the name "Siraha" has a different stories and myths. According to one of the famous stories, many years ago, there was a King named "Sahlesh", who was a very humble and idealistic person. He was a philanthrophist and helped anyone in need. So, the businessmen who came from India named this place as "सहारा" (pronunciation: Sahara) which translates to "help" or "support" in English. The word "Sahara" then slowly got transformed to "Siraha". Similarly, another story mentions that this place was a dense forest, and thus, a lot of roots. So, using the local word for roots i.e.  "शिर" (Pronounced as "Shir"), the name "Siraha " came into existence after being transformed from "Shir" to "Shira" and then to "Siraha".

Another interesting aspect about Siraha is that it is the home to Nepal's second school, which was established as "Chandra Middle School" in 1972 B.S.(1955 AD) by the then Rana Prime Minister Chandra Shumsher Rana. The school has been giving quality education to students till date under the name of "Chandra Madhyamik (Prabidhik) Bidhyala".
